Wadstock college festival 2007 - Oxford

Wadham College, Oxford, is one of the most attractive and appealing of the Oxford University Colleges.

Having done previous successful events at the College, SXS was invited to assist with the annual "Wadstock" festival.

 

The Brief

The brief of the event was to create an outdoor performance area with quality stage lighting and PA for up to 1000 people. Performers ranged from students doing their first performance to professional acts with years of experience.

 

The Production

The first thing to be arranged on such events is the Outdoor Stage Hire system to be used. In this case the stage did not have to be particularly large, nor did it need very substantial wind-loadings. As such, the SXS team purchased a complete Outdoor Stage system for this, and several other booked events.

In addition to the stage, two small marquee structures needed to be provided - for the FOH mixing position and backstage area. SXS provided an attractive "witches hat" structure for these tents.

Sound

Like at any outdoor musical event, the sound quality is crucial to the event's success. A 10 000 watt Thunder Ridge Sound System and Thunder Ridge Foldback was chosen from SXS' in-house stock.

The rig had plenty of headroom as it was driven by a eight channels of digital switch-modes amps (Camco Vortex 6 and C-Audio Pulse) totalling over 15 000 watts.

Both a monitor and front of house desk was provided so that the bands onstage had a dedicated sound engineer.

Held on the listed historic site of Wadham College, the production aspect of the event had to be respectful of the site and work with the difficult access and power.

 

 

Lighting

Although the budget was tight, SXS provided a quality stage lighting rig consisting of a 24k par can rig, four Futurelght MH660 moving heads, and a pairof Martin Mac 2000s for high-impact effects.

The event was a massive success and SXS have been booked to provide full production and site services for the 2007 Wadham Summer Ball.
